Spec Miata (SM) racing is one of the most popular and accessible forms of motorsport in the United States, and there are several sanctioning bodies which provide numerous events where you can race a Spec Miata. Here’s a breakdown:
1. SCCA (Sports Car Club of America)
The SCCA has many regional and divisional series, offering plenty of opportunities to race. Also, the SCCA Majors are part of the Hoosier Super Tour, which is one of the highest levels of amateur racing. Not only that, Spec Miata is included in the National Championship Runoffs – the oldest championship event in grassroots club racing, which celebrated its 60th year in 2024.
2. NASA (National Auto Sport Association)
NASA organizes regional Spec Miata races all over the U.S., making it accessible for racers in many locations. Spec Miata racers are also eligible to race for a NASA National Championship, featuring tough competition.
3. WRL (World Racing League)
WRL is an endurance racing series where Spec Miatas are a common sight. Teams often use Spec Miatas for long-distance endurance racing.
4. ChampCar Endurance Series
While not exclusive to Spec Miata, this series allows Spec Miatas to participate in affordable, grassroots endurance racing events.
5. AER (American Endurance Racing)
Similar to WRL and ChampCar, Spec Miatas are frequently used in AER events, with their affordability and reliability making them a favorite in endurance racing.
6. FARA
This exciting new racing series ram their own run group for the entirety of FARA’s 2024 schedule. All races were streamed live and announced by the one and only Greg Creamer and friends providing professional commentary for each race. This series had have over 15K in cash prizes and contingency awards each weekend.
Other Regional or Club Series
Many regional clubs host Spec Miata racing, including independent racing organizations and track day events.
